Family History

In the near future, I will be putting up a site with my family tree and some of the information I have found in my research. When I get it started I will post a link here on this blog so keep posted. I have found quite a bit of interesting history such as the fact that Mary Calvert Hurley is a direct descendant of George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore and also very probably a direct descendant of Edward III of England. Below is a post of a few newspaper articles regarding the Hurleys. Hope at least a few of y'all find it as interesting as I do.

Skeletons in the Hurley Closet

Here are a couple of interesting articles about Grandpap Hurley's father George. George was the son of William Hurley and raised in and around Canonsburg, his wife Mary Calvert's family lived in and around Brownsville, and West Brownsville. I am sure this is Grandpap's father as his middle initial is the same and all information about locations, etc. fit. The first article when he went missing was dated Oct 2, 1891 and the second about his death was dated Oct 16, 1891. Both were in The Courier, Connellsville's newspaper where apparently he was employed. Lastly I am posting his National Guard info from the state archives. I have copies of the whole pages if anyone is interested just let me know.

A thoughtful criminal....

From the Observer Reporter's police beat on May 13, 2006:

CANONSBURG
Apartment entered: Christine Henderson, 119 W. College St., told Canonsburg police Thursday that her apartment was entered. The burglar drank a few beers, tidied the apartment and left with a case of beer.

I'm wondering if I put a large ad in the paper if he will come to my house.

The Dreaded Science Project

Alex is in the middle of his 5th grade science project and of course being the child he is... he decided to do the problem of which bridge design is the strongest. A wonderful project, right? Wrong..... guess who had to assist and design the bridges. Flashbacks to my mechanical drawing class at McGuffey. And go figure ... building scale models of bridges out of small, round pieces of wood is not easy. I glued my fingers together more than once... and still am peeling glue off the ends of them. Well anyway... here are some of the finished products. I'll put pictures of the final display on when it is done. Oh by the way.... We now are doing a social studies project and he wants to build a model of the Alamo!

You guys can visit me on 3A anytime you want.
